Lee Slater co-convenes American Geophysical Union (AGU) Chapman
Conference on Biogeophysics
In collaboration with Estella Atekwana (Oklahoma State University), Lee Slater con-convened the AGU Chapman Conference on Biogeophysics that was held in October 13-16, in Portland, Maine. The conference brought 65 scientists together to discuss the possible application of geophysical imaging technologies for measuring/monitoring microbial processes in the earth.
Travels awards from the National Science Foundation (NSF) and U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) were provided to bring the key scientists engaged in this area of novel research to the conference. The attendees were an international group with participants from Europe, Israel and China, in addition to U.S. and Canadian academics. The conference included plenary talks by three highly distinguished earth scientists, Professor Derek Lovely (UMass Amhurst), Professor George Luther (U. Delaware) and Prof. Bo Barker Jorgensen (U. of Aarhus, Denmark).
Two members of our department, Dimitrios Ntarlagiannis (Assistant Research Professor) and Chi Zhang (2nd yr PhD student) gave oral presentations at this conference. For further details of the conference see the AGU Chapman Conference webpage.
