Near Surface Geophysics Section(NSGS) Induced Polarization Workshop

In a collaboration with Esben Auken (University of Aarhus, Denmark) and Douglas LaBrecque (Multiphase Technoligies LLC, Nevada), Lee-Slater convened the Environmental & Engineering Geophysical Society (EEGS)/ Society of Exploration Geophysics (SEG)-Near Surface Geophysics Section (NSGS) Workshop on 'Induced Polarization: Research and Recent Advances in Near Surface Applications' at the SEG Annual Meeting, Las Vegas, Nevada, 14 November.

In addition to giving an overview talk on the induced polarization method, Lee also gave a talk on his ongoing work at the U.S. Department of Energy's Hanford site in Richland, WA, where he is working with Ph.D. student Kisa Mwakyanamale and Assistant Research Professor Dimitrios Ntarlagiannis to characterize the hydrogeologic framework of the hyporheic zone along the Columbia River at this site.

Dimitrios Ntarlagiannis also participated in the workshop by giving an invited talk on the use of induced polarization in biogeophysical research, focusing on the monitoring of biomineralization processes.

A total of 7 invited talks were given by experts in IP with six of the invitees being from European institutions. The workshop was attended by over 60 participants.
